Fostering FAQ’s
If you are looking at adopting a greyhound, here is your chance to get in a practice one and help them on there way into their forever home.
Why are greyhounds placed in foster homes?
To give the hound time to adjust to pet life after living in racing kennels
To gather information about the hound in a home situation
To assist with temperament testing, basic training and any behavioural modification requirements.
Can I foster if I have my own pets?
Yes! We will match the right greyhound to your home life and existing pet family
Can I foster if I work full time?
Yes! Although you will need to have enough time to help the hound along with learning pet life,
As for most greyhounds this will be their first time out of the kennels and in an actual home,
They will need guidance to help settle in, learn how to behave in a home and gain confidence in the wider world.
How long do greyhounds spend in foster care?
Each hound is an individual and as such foster times vary.
Times also depend on how quickly a suitable adoptive family is found.
You can however expect to have your hound in foster for 4-6 weeks. (times may vary)
What does May Hounds provide foster carers with?
May Hounds pays a monthly food allowance, a one off bedding allowance, any associated veterinary costs and 24 hour contact
A collar and lead, muzzle, dog crate, promotional jacket and dog coat (if required) are provided with your hound.
Can I adopt my foster greyhound?
Sometimes foster families fall in love with their foster hounds.
You are more than welcome to adopt your “foster fail”.
Unless your hound has already been reserved.
The normal adoption process and fees apply.
