May Hounds

May Hounds Charitable Trust is an independent non-profit Trust specializing in transitioning greyhounds from race dog to family pet through a foster care system.

We are a mainly volunteer based Greyhound Re-homing Group working throughout New Zealand.

All our Greyhounds are desexed, vaccinated, micro-chipped, registered and vet checked.

We hope to make a small difference to the hundreds of racing greyhounds whose racing careers end each year. Experienced Greyhound owners ourselves, we are very aware of the special qualities of this majestic breed and wanted to enable other people to enjoy them as pets.

We take pride in knowing all our dogs well and take the time and care to ensure the right home is matched to the right dog. We provide full backup and support 24/7 for as long as required.

Greyhounds are very low maintenance dogs. Despite their well deserved reputation as great athletes, they do not require large amounts of exercise but just love to chill out on the sofa. Most retired racers have lived exclusively in kennels but we find they adapt extremely quickly to living in a home and settle in easily and will become a loyal companion.
