How we started

Mayhounds started out of the boots of trainers vans in late 2016. We would walk around the trainers car park at the race courses offering to help rehome these sensational athletes who were ready to retire into pet life . We didn’t know exactly how we would achieve these at the time but were determined to be part of process. Melissa and I had to do this without a kennel base or any financial backing.

From very humble beginnings we have worked with social media platforms and from the homes of dedicated voluntary foster homes around the country to provided the greyhounds with an opportunity to unwind from their careers and learn the basics and benefits of pet life .

We stand proud as niche styled rehoming group of volunteers who work together to provide new owners and their greyhounds with around the clock care and support.

We have dogs available all over New Zealand and have fabulous relationships with our trainers ensuring we understand their dog’s character and quirks and how best to move forward with their care before adoption. We allow the dogs a 4-6 week period to be evaluated and to give our Foster parents plenty of time to get to know the greyhound before advertising them accordingly.
